Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2025. The In-Person Construction Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pompano Beach Library located at 50 Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach, FL 33060. This meeting will have an informal open house format with project representatives available to answer questions and provide assistanceat any time during the meeting. Notices are being sent to all property owners and tenants within the construction corridor and to other public officials, regulatory agencies, organizations, and individuals who expressed interest in the project. Community feedback is at the core of all we do. FDOT works with the public to balance their community vision with the community’s transportation needs. A PD&E Study is FDOT’s process to evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts associated with a planned transportation improvement project. The proposed project improvements along Cove Road from SR 76 to US 1 include roadway widening from two to four travel lanes, a bicycle and pedestrian shared-use path, and intersection reconfigurations. The project will enhance the community by accommodating planned development growth, improve safety by incorporating street lighting and several roundabout intersections, and facilitate access to the regional highway network with decreased evacuation and emergency response times. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by FDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. § 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated May 26, 2022, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and FDOT. The purpose of this project is to improve roadway capacity by adding travel lanes, improve safety, and enhance freight movement and emergency evacuation. The Preferred Alternative includes the widening of CR 510 from two to four lanes including intersection improvements at the intersection with 58th Avenue and at SR 5/US 1, as well as multimodal features such as sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and a shared use path. A bridge over the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway and the SR 5/US 1 intersection is also being recommended to improve safety at the railroad crossing just west of the SR 5/US 1 intersection. The improvements from the Preferred Alternative will improve capacity and safety along the CR 510 corridor while enhancing workforce and economic development for northeast Indian River County.
